Camping on Cape Cod: a vacation paradise

Cape Cod is one of the most beautiful vacation spots in the United States. A hub of activity in summer, it can also be a beautiful wonderland to visit in winter.

When you think of Cape Cod, you think of endless sandy beaches, sun, surf, and whale watching. It is generally not as well known that there is a diversity on Cape Cod and it also includes oak and pine forests that are also open to the public for camping.

Located in the heart of Cape Cod is Sweetwater Forest, a beautiful and picturesque campground offering 250 wooded campsites scattered throughout 75 acres of woods and along Snow’s Pond. The camps offer modern comforts, including Wi-Fi service, while maintaining a high level of harmony with the natural environment.

Atlantic Oaks Campground is a campground that caters to the RV crowd. Fully forested sites that are easy for RVs to traverse are equipped with modern conveniences. Atlantic Oaks has clean restaurants and private showers with free hot water. They have wireless internet, cable TV and laundry area. The campground is also closed, allowing campers to have peace of mind for the duration of their stay.

Bay View Campgrounds is aptly named, with a view of the Cape Cod Canal, this campground is one of the most popular in all of Massachusetts. RVs, campers, and tents are welcome here. Bay View offers all of the modern conveniences described above, plus swimming pools and playgrounds. It is also “pet friendly”. Bay View has the distinction of being just minutes from local vacation spots like beaches, theaters, restaurants, horseback riding and more.

Camping on Cape Cod can be one of the best and most memorable vacations for a family. The Cape is actually a peninsula that, in 1914, once the Cape Cod Canal was built, turned Cape Cod into an island by separating it from the mainland. Cape Cod has nearly 560 miles of Atlantic Ocean coastline, both public and private. Easily accessible to visitors, the Cape has around 60 public beaches.

While camping on Cape Cod be sure to visit some of the islands located close to the mainland. These include Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard. These islands are well known for their wealth and privilege, but they are also picturesque and beautiful, and well worth the ferry ride.

Some free activities you can enjoy while camping on Cape Cod include:
