What’s the one magic move in your golf swing that you absolutely need to do correctly?

There are probably four (4) things in a golf swing that you could call magic. They are magical because when done correctly and in a timely manner, the whole thing reacts as if it were some yet unknown magic spell. As if there were some external control over the swing.

The ball explodes on the clubhead and you feel like you really didn’t do much. It is effortless. And it’s almost anti-climatic in the sense that you’re usually used to expending large amounts of energy to make a really bad shot. Right?

However, if the truth were known, he would admit that he has never really felt it. And if you have, you have no idea in the world what you did to deserve that once-in-a-lifetime feeling.

The question may never be asked, so you don’t risk having to make up a story that will make you feel bad later.

But, I just asked the question and you’re lucky we’re not in the same room so you don’t have to answer. Just answer yourself. And the answer is?

Already knew.

The other day I was playing with some friends at our club.

The wind was blowing 30 MPH. A hard day to play. The kind of day where balance and swing speed were very important.

I faced a headwind on a par four, a slight dog leg to the right. As I was evaluating the conditions in my mind, I decided that I would try the “windy, easy swing” theory.

At the same time, I thought I would make a little cut and fade it around the corner. That would give me a wedge on the green. Good idea!

Here’s the problem, I had to hit it far enough or they would have blocked me on the next shot.

I can do the cut shot well, but it takes some distance from the shot and tends to go a bit higher than my normal trajectory. And then the wind would really have an effect.

I got slightly open and figured swinging along the line of my feet would give me a good enough fade to do the trick. But that damn wind.

About halfway to impact, I committed a carnal golf sin. That’s right, I changed my mind.

I decided that to go around that corner I would have guessed everything right. Damn. Hit the boogers. Get to work.

So I did it!

I took the scariest shot. I swung as hard as a man could, and man, did I ever do a cut shot? More like a boomerang. Amazing!

Incredible bad is what I mean.

This is a shot you would hardly ever hit. But the point of this is to tell you that when you do wrong things with the golf swing, bad things happen with the golf ball.

And it doesn’t matter who you are or what your disability is. The ball doesn’t care! And your golf swing gives you what it gives you. No doubt about that.

So you see that a good player who ignores the basics gets bad results. A poor player who ignores the basics gets poor results.

They are the same!

Now what is that first magic move on your downswing? Let’s find out!

First, I want to make sure you understand that I am making a big assumption here. And you are already in a great position in your backswing. If not, you can also shut down your computer now.

It won’t do any good to get it wrong in the first half and then be in constant correction and partial confusion the rest of the way to the golf ball.

It’s pretty easy to do, I mean backswing. So that’s the first part.

Oh yeah and this. Once again, let me remind everyone that there are no good players with bad grips. By now you know what a good grip is, so now would be a good time to take a “good grip”

Drumroll! The first magical move on your downswing is not a hip roll.

Sorry to ruin a long held theory. Rotating the hips is a formula for a reverse weight shift. Do not do this.

The first magic move in your downswing consists of three elements.

Are here:

1. The first movement is a swing of your hips laterally towards the target while keeping your head in the same relative position. It is very important to understand why these two things are so vital.

The lateral bulge of the hips shifts the weight to the front leg, this eliminates the weight shift backwards and it is probably not possible to keep the head in its original position, but the idea is not to move the head towards the target. That means you keep your head behind the ball. This is crucial for the mechanics of the body.

As you hit your hips laterally and keep your head behind the ball, this move will swing your shoulders so that you are now in a position where your right shoulder is lower than your left and you are in a position of power to hit from the ground. inside the ball. the target line.

From here you can’t hit from above. Good, really?

Now for the skeptics. You’ll notice that I haven’t said a word about turning your hips. You may have read that you need to do that. Rotate your hips.

Bury the thought.

Here is the test that shows that you will rotate your hips whether you want it or not. Therefore, you do not need to worry about it.

Get into a prepared position. You don’t need a club. Roll to your right side as if you were on your backswing.

Now hit your hips sideways, hit as much as you can (slowly) keeping your head in its relative position. Keep hitting.

As you continue to hit your hips, you will soon see that you cannot physically hit any more and guess what happens.

Your hips rotate. There you go! And now you’ve made me say it. Rotate your hips. But you don’t have to do anything, it’s automatic.

Try it!

2. The second movement is a fall of the right elbow to the right side while maintaining the angle between the axis of the club and the right arm. In addition to the angle between the right wrist and the right forearm.

That sounds like a lot to remember.

Here’s some good news. You don’t have to remember it. You just have to know.

When you hit your hips sideways and were in a good back rocking position, your arms

automatically drop to the correct position on your right hip. The only thing you can do to make sure of this is another drum roll, nothing.

That’s right, don’t do anything.

And I don’t mean anything. Your hands and arms must follow the path. Don’t try to get them to do anything. Turn them into stone, wood, metal or whatever you want. But don’t force them to do anything.

This is a great example of getting out of your own way. Let your arms follow your shoulders as you slap your hips sideways and they will go to the right place. Pretty cool stuff, right?

3. Now just hit the ball. You will be in a perfect position to attack the golf ball from the inside with power and precision.

Now let’s try this out a bit. Grab a stick, get into a backswing position. Slowly move your hips sideways and allow your hands and arms to go where they want.

Did they fall almost to the right hip? They should have. Do this several times until you feel the bump and drop. It will not be easy. But if you do this, you will hit the ball as if by magic.

Who else does this? Well, for starters, Tiger Woods. You can see proof of that if you watch your swing and take note of your position as you hit your hips sideways.

His arms drop and most noticeably he squats. This is seen by looking at his knees. You will see that they are both bent and lean towards the target. And they are well separated. Sort of a bow-legged look.

His head is still where it was, but you will occasionally see him bend so low that his head drops or shortens. This is a small problem that we don’t have to worry about.

It’s because Tiger Woods develops tremendous torque in his golf swing. Something that we probably couldn’t achieve.

But what we can do is achieve the exact positions like Tiger Woods just by doing the simple things that are right on our golf swings.

Is magic? Of course it is. It is as magical as you want. You will hit the ball as if by magic. That’s close enough, right?

So give this a try. Trust me, it works. It’s another advanced lesson, but so what? You will have to know how to do it one day if you keep playing golf.

Why not know now?

Bail. Don’t listen to your friends in the field. They have listened to someone else, they have listened to someone else, they have listened to someone else, and so on.

This first move down is absolutely correct and every good player does it. So it should.

Go find them! Let me know how you do it.
