5 feminine details that will not bother him

Femininity, the female form, and representations of the beauty of women can be seen everywhere. However, when it comes to interior design, it can overdo the feminine…especially in a home where members of the opposite sex live. Some men may not care for a Victorian-style bedroom, replete with pretty trinkets and floral motifs, but even so, for many women it just doesn’t feel right. So how do you go about infusing feminine details without going overboard? It is much simpler than one would think.

Vanity – Create a little nook in a bedroom or bathroom for a vanity or makeup bar, instead of cluttering up the sink space with all your toiletries and products. With so many varieties available, you can find a small vanity to suit the style of the room. Antique or garage sale finds are always an affordable option and can make for a great rehab project. Sand, paint and stain. Just like with kitchen cabinets and vanities, adding new hardware will update them quickly. Then have fun assembling pretty trays, jars, and decorations to accompany your everyday items. A smart chair or stool completes the space and voila! Your stuff is out of the way and you have your own version of a hair and makeup studio.

Chandelier – A sparkling chandelier with crystals or pops of bright color is a clever way to incorporate feminine allure. Vanities, walk-in closets, and porches are a no-compromise space to place them. At the same time, they can give a space a sense of romance, and what better place for romance than in the bedroom? Come to think of it, this may be less convincing than you think.

Cushions and Throws – Literally add some girly colors and textures with cushions and throws. While your sheets and coverlets may remain gender-neutral, a little touch of cable-knit, lace ruffles, or rich florals aren’t quite as eye-catching when done in small doses. Not just for accent decorating, these cozy items also come in handy for relaxing on the couch on lazy afternoons.

Books and magazines: If your passions and hobbies are generally geared toward women, use books or magazines dedicated to women in your home decor. A small gathering or collection of your favorite titles gives you a chance to show off your interests. A stack of old Vogue magazines is a lot less direct than a framed poster of your favorite cover.

Jewelry Displays: Instead of keeping everything in one box, display your favorite jewelry and accessories. Display space can be found on top of a dresser or on a shelf, where you can use the wall behind the space to hang a few hooks. While you can buy necklace stands, ring stands, and other ready-to-wear pieces, glass bowls and trays are perfect containers for your jewelry. A fabric-filled picture frame instead of a photograph becomes a perfect place to hang earrings, while a pretty mug or vase is the perfect way to stack bracelets.
