Cockapoo Training Tips for First Time Owners

The cockapoo was born by crossing an American or English cocker spaniel and a poodle. First bred in the United States, cockapoos became popular not only in the United States but also in other countries such as Australia and Sweden, called spoodles and cockerpoo respectively. This breed is known to be very people-oriented, but nevertheless, cockapoo training is still necessary to raise a well-behaved dog that anyone would love to spend time with.

Although this breed is known to be intelligent like its poodle ancestors, training the cockapoo can be challenging, especially for dog owners who are inexperienced with what it’s like to own a dog, much less a very active dog who can jump on furniture

To get you on the right track, start socializing your dog as soon as possible. The breeder may have already socialized the puppy, but that doesn’t mean you never have to socialize the pet. Introduce the quadruped to other animals in the home, as well as other family members. If they are not presented correctly, various problems can arise, such as dominance and aggression. Gradually introduce new environments, things, and other essential things into the human world. Never limit your pup’s world to just the comfort of your home, let alone within the four corners of a crate. A puppy’s lack of socialization will only result in him being timid, shy and submissive.

Along with socialization, house training should also start early. Puppies have limited bowel and urinary control, so they need to be constantly supervised to prevent accidents around the house. After waking up in the morning, after eating and drinking, after activities, when excited or nervous, and before bed at night are the best times to take the puppy out to urinate/poop. Setting a potty time this way will definitely help the pup develop a regular potty schedule. Of course, house training may not be as much of a hassle if you adopt a cockapoo from the nearest dog shelters, since most dogs at the shelter or in rescue groups are already trained by their previous owners or volunteers. .

Your trait as an owner is equally essential to cockapoo training success. Determination, patience, and consistency are key to helping you achieve your goal: determination to continue training, patience to put up with your dog’s mistakes, and consistency in training so that your dog understands the information you are trying to convey. If you don’t have these characteristics, poor Fido will probably do just fine in the hands of a more suitable owner.
