CSI Program
CSI began its involvement in Sudan in 1992, when Dr. John Eibner and Baroness Caroline Cox were invited by the local churches to document the horrific atrocities and enslavement in the country. In 1998, CSI started working in the northern area of Sudan, where Christian communities were persecuted. The group’s efforts led to the release of more than one hundred thousand slaves, most of whom were Christians.
In 1995, CSI became involved in the Sudanese slave trade and rescued a number of enslaved people. In order to accomplish this, the group worked with local black African and Arab leaders, who were taking the initiative to end the practice. The organization also provided survival kits for the freed people, which facilitated their return to their homelands. As a result, it claims to have helped return 80,000 enslaved people to their communities.
While the organization’s efforts were initially criticized, its work has since made significant progress. Today, CSI has helped bridge the divide between the opposition and the government. It has taken the initiative and developed alternative policies that address the needs of the people. It has also helped develop the Civil front. These efforts have been critical in promoting a viable democratic transition in Sudan. In addition to providing humanitarian aid, CSI also has partnered with the national Right to Read Foundation and the Right to Read Foundation, thereby allowing for a larger and more effective response.
CSI Programs in Sudan
CSI is also involved in the Sudanese slavery crisis. It helped a local peace tribe set up a “retrieval network” with the goal of rescuing the enslaved southerners from enslavement and returning them to their homelands. CSI’s role in the struggle to end the slavery in Sudan continues to this day. There are many other facets of CSI’s work, besides bringing home enslaved people.
