Dead eBay Bidders: What To Do When They Don’t Pay

It’s a bit difficult to shoot them when you don’t know who they are or where they live, so there’s definitely a need for an easier plan to deal with inactive eBay bidders. First of all, how could someone bid on something and then not want to pay for it? That kind of business is not appreciated on eBay. In fact, even before bidders place their bids, they are reminded that they are entering into a legal contract and that they are responsible for purchasing the item from the seller if they win the auction. It is quite simple; Please do not bid if you are unable or unwilling to pay. Still, what would the world be like without idiots?

As a seller, your communication with the winning bidder is critically important. Sometimes all it takes is a friendly, well-written email to remind the bidder of their obligation, but then there are some people who just can’t get a hint. However, there is no need to call any legbreakers (again, who are they and where do they live) or resort to malicious emails.

To help reduce the number of people on eBay who do not take responsibility, eBay has established certain policies for those who do not pay. If an eBay user is noted for not paying in three separate instances, that eBay member receives an indefinite suspension without a specific reinstatement date. People who try to establish new accounts after receiving suspensions can be prosecuted by law.

Before filing an unpaid dispute record with eBay, you must give the bidder a second and possibly a third payment option. A dispute cannot be filed earlier than seven days after the auction and no later than 45 days after.

If after submitting your dispute, you and the bidder reach an agreement, you, as the seller, can remove the record of the dispute from the bidder’s profile. The best way to prevent bidders from not paying is to carefully observe those who bid. Beware of high bidders with negative or low comments. Under no circumstances should you send an item to these people before your payment has been cleared. However, what you can send them is a reminder of eBay’s non-paying policy. As mentioned above, sometimes a little communication is enough.
