If you are like most of us, then you enjoy movies as much as anyone else. Well get ready to enjoy them even more as a family. I’m talking about Drive-In cinemas, you know, how people used to go in the 50’s when they were popular. My family and I discovered drive-ins a couple of years ago when we were looking for something to do as a family. While doing an online search, I came across this website that was all about drive-ins (see link below). I had only seen them in movies before and didn’t even know they still existed. Well, they still exist, and we go to several of them each year starting in early spring when they open for the season. We hope to go every Friday or Saturday night.
This year we even tried something different, we decided to buy some family games to play while we waited for the movie to start. We like to get there early enough to have time to play a bit before the movie. We also like to get there early so we can find a good spot, sometimes there might be a car in front of you and you can’t see as well. Another great thing about going to the drive-in is that we bring our own food and have our own picnic, it also saves us some money. Also, drive-ins are excellent value for money. You can watch two movies for the price of one. The first is usually a children’s or family movie, and the other is usually more for parents. By then, the children are usually asleep.
The first movie starts as soon as it gets dark, then there is a little intermission, in case you need to go to the bathroom or visit the concession stand. Drive-ins seem to be disappearing, although I don’t know why, my family and I love them. If we had the capital, we would open one ourselves. As I said earlier, we have found several that we visit throughout the year.
We live in the western suburbs of Chicago and we have several like this that we attend. The one we go to is only about twenty minutes from our house. A couple of the others last about an hour and a half, but when we go to these we leave earlier and go biking and playing in a nearby park.

When visiting these websites, be sure to call ahead to make sure the theater is still in operation, as the websites may not update too often.
Like I said before, driving in a car is a great way to get the family out of the house and into enjoying each other’s company. Two movies for the price of one can’t be beat.
