Five places to find used cars for sale

Everyone knows that when you need to find new or used cars for sale, you should go to a dealer, and this is usually your best option for finding a wide variety of vehicles in one place. But maybe you visited your local dealership and didn’t see anything you liked, or maybe you just want to familiarize yourself with used car prices in your area before heading to the dealership. Here are five other options you can try!

1. Online

This is probably the most obvious choice on where to look, but the internet is a great resource for finding used cars for sale. For one thing, it opens up a market far beyond your local area. You may have to pay to transport the vehicle, but this is a great option if you are looking for something specific. You probably know how to check Craigslist, but if you’re looking for vintage cars, give eBay a try!

2. Newspapers / Automobile Magazines

Although print media is not as popular as it used to be, classified ads are still alive and well. Find out if your local newspaper has an expanded classified section on Sundays! Be sure to also check out free classifieds like Penny Pincher. Automotive trade magazines, which are often distributed outside of companies, are also a good source of potential customers.

3. Car auction

This one might require a little help because most auctions require the buyer to have a dealer license. However, if you can find someone with a dealer license, auto auctions are a great place to find used cars for sale! Often these are vehicles that have been repossessed or acquired as part of a lot, so they can generally be sold very cheaply. As with any used vehicle purchase, be sure to bring someone who has mechanical knowledge so that you can be sure that you will get a reliable ride.

4. Drive

Many consumers these days rely on the internet or retail sites to find used cars for sale, but sometimes it’s best to go back to an earlier time when people often found cars for sale by looking at them while driving. People often list their personal vehicles for sale on the side of the road or in public parking areas with signs on the windows. Try driving in less populated areas to find options that may have received less attention. The landlord is more likely to negotiate a good price with you!

5. Ask your friends and family

Sometimes we overlook the simplest answer, which is to turn to our friends and family for help. If you ask people you know, whether they are co-workers, friends, or parents, they may have a clue for you. Go to their circle and ask if they know anyone who is selling or if they are thinking of selling their vehicle. Having a connection can help you get a better price!

Regardless of which method you use, whether you end up choosing a traditional dealership or one of the options above, be sure to do your research and compare prices, and you will surely end up driving something you love!
