When starting out with N track model railways you will obviously want to purchase a starter kit to get you started. You can buy a complete train set like the ones made by Graham Farish or Dapol that comes complete with track, locomotive, wagons/carriages and controller. If you want more control over what you’re building, but don’t want to buy it piece by piece (by track), then you may want to consider purchasing the PECO ST300 Starter Track Kit. This way you can get a large number of tracks to start with and then pick the locomotive and carriages of your choice based on the era/location you are set in.

The track is Setrack and will fit perfectly with other parts I buy from PECO in the future. The Planbook that is included in the set has many ideas for your initial layout and contains some useful information, although to read more about the hobby I definitely recommend getting more literature on the subject in the form of help books.
