Raising a Rottweiler puppy can be much more different than raising any other breed of dog. Just like having a baby, you need to keep an eye out for your rotten pup. Make sure you don’t leave him alone for long periods of time because he will panic and start whining over you.

I wasn’t prepared for my pup to be honest. I got it from a guy I put on Craigslist for a decent price. She is a German Rottweiler, she was only 6 weeks old and I named her Xena B. Johnson. The “B” stood for “Bear” because she looked like a bear cub with a short tail.

I don’t really know why docking the rottweiler’s tail became so popular, but I always thought it looked really cool. The short tail makes my dog ​​look different and more unique than the other breeds to me and that alone makes her special. Her black and mahogany coat is so beautiful. I love the velvety feel and sheen the coat naturally had.

The first thing I did after leaving the breeder was pick up my girlfriend from work. Of course she had no idea I had a puppy, but we had been talking about getting one and she wanted her to check out the Rottweiler puppies this particular breeder had. So you can probably imagine the startled look on her face when she opened the door and saw Xena sitting in her seat. It was really funny because she was talking to a coworker as she got in the car, so she never really looked into the car until just before she sat down.

Anyway, after the hugs and the kisses and the I love you’s, we take Xena to PetSmart to pick up some pet supplies. Like I said before, I wasn’t ready for a puppy. I got him a bed to lie on, some training pads, some dog food, and treats (like chicken, beef, and cheese bites). I’ll admit that PetSmart items are a bit more expensive than the pet supplies she’ll find at her local dollar store, Walmart, HEB, Krogers, etc.

The dog breeder initially told me that he had been feeding his dogs a cheap brand of dog food since he had so many dogs to feed. I ended up choosing IAMS Dog Food as my Rottweiler’s go-to food. They have different types of food for different age groups so all I had to do was take one for puppies around 6 weeks old and I got the Smart Puppy IAMS brand because I wanted it to be smart.

I usually go to Walmart, simply because it’s the closest store to me with a decent variety of pet supplies. I spend about $50 a month on food and snacks for my rottweiler pup. I’m glad Walmart didn’t decide to add a pet hospital inside. I can definitely see a dog breaking loose and making its way to McDonald’s or the food aisle. All the customers are panicking because a crazy and deranged chihuahua is biting their ankles.

Anyway, while I’m at PetSmart, I notice the Banfield Pet Hospital in the back. So, let’s check it out and see what they do and if they have any suitable plans for our pup. We ended up signing Xena up for the wellness plan because we felt we needed to make sure she was as healthy as possible.

The bill wasn’t pretty but I did what I had to do. Also, this is my first puppy. A couple of people told me how easy it was to give my pup the shots myself, but I didn’t want to take any chances.

This was my first puppy, a living liability, and I had to pay for it.

Sooooooo… Yes!

I took the necessary precautions to ensure the health and livelihood of my pet. Also, this particular PetSmart store had a pet grooming salon in the back of the store, next to the Banfield Pet Hospital. I made sure to stop by to see if it was okay to bring my rottweiler pup once in a while to get fixed up.

They offer some pretty good services such as:

• oral care

• nail cutting

• hair clipping

• shampoo

• bathroom

I took a business card from the reception at the beauty salon and headed to the counter to buy the pet supplies we gathered earlier. One awesome thing we found at the cashier was a puppy starter kit. I couldn’t believe someone would do something so precious to a new dog owner like me. It was as if God led us to that store.

The puppy starter kit included coupons for:

• pet food

• Beds

• cages

• appetizers

• toy

• Pet training lessons (also within PetSmart)

• Banfield Pet Hospital Visits

• Visits to the beauty salon for pets

I think the first 2 visits to the salon were $10 each. That’s an amazing price to get your pup clean and breathing fresh smelling. I don’t want to say I’m in my pup’s face or anything. I personally don’t kiss my dog, but I know of a few people who do. I just choose to show my love and affection differently.

In fact, Xena was the cutest rottweiler puppy I’d ever seen. In fact, she was the cutest pup in the world, hands down. All she needed was a little scarf or a bow or a ribbon or something nicer that people put on her puppies to win dog shows.

After paying, we head back home to introduce Xena to her new home. She was scared and nervous at first because everything was new to her. She was used to being around Rottweiler dogs and her birth parents. We fed her that night and let her explore her bedroom. Obviously, you have to be careful with puppies because they still can’t hold their bladders for a long time. After she fell asleep, we went to sleep.
