Kitchen trends in 2010

It is the most important room in the house friends. I mean the vast majority of buyers as well as homeowners who simply want a nice interior. A clean, updated kitchen offers the greatest return on investment when selling your home and is a great convenience for those who choose to stay and enjoy it.

Ok, the trends don’t change much from year to year, but I follow these trends since the color seems to have a yearly change in one area of the kitchen.

First of all, there seems to be a tendency to hide some appliances in the drawers, so that they are hidden with the design of the cabinets. I am mainly talking about the example of using drawers for a dishwasher. Homeowners can wash smaller loads in these drawers while saving energy. Personally, I am not a big fan of this trend as it seems to me like a trend that will not last. Buyers love seeing the beautiful stainless steel refrigerator, stove, and dishwasher. Time may prove me wrong, but I’d rather not hide my high-priced stainless steel appliance.

Let’s start with cabinets, which are historically part of the big three: cabinets, countertops, and appliances. Cabinet trends in recent years have ushered in the weathered look, which I love; it is different and timeless. However, it is still a trend and seems to be on the decline, and the most popular kitchen cabinet wood is still cherry and then maple. I find that the least popular is what I have; white cabinets. Don’t worry. If these are combined with good countertops, lighting, hardware, and flooring, they can look and sell well.

How about the countertops? Granite is still on top, and for good reason. It has many color options and is not as maintenance-intensive as the competition claims. This is from my own experience of course. Quartz and other stones continue to rise. The bottom line is that any textured stone or marble with a good color will suffice. Just get rid of the laminate once and for all. Do it now while the economy is slow and deals are available.

Accessories. Easy. Stainless steel is still king. Black is acceptable, but if you can, upgrade.

It’s time to talk about floors. This is another area that is consistent from year to year. Wood and tiles of the ceramic and porcelain variety remain the most popular. If you’re remodeling, I just stick to the following rule of thumb. If you have hardwood floors throughout the main level, stick with that for the kitchen instead of switching from hardwood to tile. Conversely, if the room adjacent to the kitchen is carpeted, use tile. Threshold changes flow much better than with two different hard surfaces.

The last one would be the least discussed that has a huge impact on every room in a house. Be sure to use lighting and colors to enhance a room’s comfort level. Ignoring these two economic areas is a gross oversight.
