Pack your Power Kite properly to avoid tangling and twisting on the line

Packing and storing your kite

After a day of power kite, the moment inevitably comes when you will have to finish flying and pack your bags to go home. Many users have doubts about the best way to wind the kite lines so that they do not get tangled. Trying to untangle a single, double, triple or quad line kite is a great pain and a great waste of time. If you don’t store your kite properly, tangles almost always occur. So, to avoid the hassle of knots, take the time to follow these basic guidelines:

Start with untangled lines

If you store your kite with the lines crossed, you have no possibility of taking it out again in a ready-to-fly condition. Take the time to draw the straight lines before you start putting them together.

Attach your kite handles and start from the side of the kite

For safety reasons, it is important to place the kite on the ground before starting to roll up the equipment. If your kite has a brake line, make sure the brake is on. Start by folding your kite like a blanket. Fold it into a square shape that will fit in your storage bag. Make sure to tuck the zip ties into the pleats and let the lines run through the center. Next, place the kite in the bag, with the edges of the pleats exposed towards the opening of the bag. This will allow you to input the lines during the next step.

Bow the lines and “To pack them” on the bag

With your kite in the bag and the lines dangling, return to your staked handles and walk towards the bag following a gentle curving path. The lines will be laid on the ground in an arc like a rainbow, not sharply bent in on themselves. Gently insert your hand into your bag between two folded sections of the kite and open them. This will create a cave-like place for the lines to follow. (It is very important that this space is clear of the flange lines. You do not want to tangle the flange lines with the flight lines!) Then start pulling the lines hand by hand, laying them in the shape of a cave. cavity on the fly. Work your way to the end with the handles. When you get to the handles, pick them up and hold them together. Place them in their own space in the kite folds. You don’t want to store them with the lines or the flange lines, it will cause tangles. Zip up your bag and you’re done.

Unroll your kite to fly

If you have followed the method outlined above for storing your kite lines, the best way to deploy your kite is to begin by removing the handles from their place in the bag and staking them. With the opening of the bag pointing towards the handles, start walking in the wind, simply letting the fly lines drop as you go. If you see any tangles or loops, press the section of the line that will increase the size of the loop. As you do so, the tangle will automatically “fall off” and you can keep walking and letting go of the line. Once you’ve unpacked your entire line, take your kite out of the bag, unfold it, and start flying as usual.

Taking the time to properly store your kite will greatly increase the amount of time you can enjoy flying. It works very well, eliminates the twisting action that creates obstacles, and passes very quickly.
