Quick, cheap and healthy dog food recipes

If you feed your dogs food made for dogs, do you really know what you’re giving them? I recently came across a class action lawsuit being filed against several pet food manufacturers, after reading the details and doing more research I decided I couldn’t safely feed my dogs any manufactured food so I needed to research some recipes healthy homemade dog food. . The priorities when looking for good recipes was that the food was healthy, quick to prepare and cheap.

My first stop was my local butcher that I use every week. I explained that he was going to make my own dog food and asked what he could offer me that was cheap. Now he happily supplies me with a big bag of soon-to-be-out-of-date cuts and meat every Saturday night. If you don’t have a local butcher, talk to the local supermarket and see what they can offer you. You’ll often find them slashing prices on meat that will soon be stale.

After getting the meat, I managed to get a supply of cheap vegetables from the local farmer’s market. Many farmers used to throw away misshapen or bruised vegetables at the end of the market, not anymore! The final ingredient I got was large catering packets of brown rice. Rice is very nutritious and helps bind food together.

Now that I’ve gathered all the ingredients, it’s time to prepare the meal. A very quick and easy recipe is to take 2 cups of cooked rice, 1 cup of meat that can be raw or cooked and a cup of shredded vegetables, carrots and cabbage are fine but try to avoid onions. Mix all these together with some lard or vegetable oil and feed to your dogs. I can guarantee that after just a few weeks with a menu like this, your dogs will be fitter and healthier than before.

There are a few things to keep in mind before you start to change your dog’s diet. First, their digestive systems aren’t as advanced as humans, so you’ll need to gradually change their diet over a few days. Start by adding a small amount of your homemade dog food to your dog’s food, mixing it in with the regular food. Over a period of three to four days, gradually increase the amount of homemade food and reduce the amount of manufactured food. Always make sure you have plenty of fresh water available for your dog to drink with his meals. Small dogs only need to be fed once a day, while larger dogs need to be fed twice.

By choosing simple homemade dog food recipes, it is possible to significantly extend the life of your dog and save money. Why not try it for a month and see the improvement in your best friend?
