Safety in the children’s pool

A backyard pool can be so much fun and a great time for the family. But, it can also be very dangerous for children. If possible, don’t put a pool in your yard until your children are at least 5 years old. But if you already have a pool or plan to have one, be sure to follow all safety measures to keep everyone happy and safe.

The first and most important rule, never leave your children alone in or near the pool, even for a moment. All it takes is a moment for a child to fall into the pool and possibly drain. So remember, if the phone rings or you have to come home, always bring the child or children with you! Kids are super fast, a lot can happen in 5 seconds.

You should always have rescue equipment (such as a shepherd’s hook or life preserver) and a phone by the pool. These few items near the pool could save your child or anyone else. The hook will help you quickly reach someone in the pool. Use the phone for further assistance if needed.

You should consider putting up a fence to separate your house from the pool. Most young children who drown in swimming pools leave the house and fall into the pool without their parents noticing until it is too late. Install a fence at least 3-4 feet high around all 4 sides of the pool. This fence will completely separate the pool from the house and backyard. Use doors that close and lock automatically, with latches higher than your children’s reach. I know this may seem like a lot, but if you have very young children, it’s worth it.

Regardless of whether or not you have children, anyone around a pool should learn CPR and be able to rescue a child or person if necessary. Stay an arm’s length away from your child at all times. In case something happens, you can react in seconds. Seconds will be the difference between life and death!

Never leave old toys in the pool area. Remove all pool toys after use so children are not tempted to reach for them. This is important because children will miss their toys and search for them directly in the pool.

And just remember after the kids are done swimming; Secure the pool so they can’t get back into it. For more safety or product information visit [http://www.SafetyRus.com]
