Spring is here, let’s exercise our dogs

Winter is over, spring is here and it’s time to grab the dog and start getting some good exercise. For most of us it was a harsh winter and it was hard to go out and do the things that our dogs enjoy.

Walking is what most comes to mind when we talk about exercising our dogs. It’s great for the dog and good for us. The more you walk, the healthier you and your dog will be.

You can even up that hike to a jog if you’re fit. First, be sure to start with walks for a few days to get you and your dog conditioned to jog at those faster paces.

Another great way to exercise your dog is to take a nice long walk in the woods. It will give both of you a chance to get away from all the traffic and still be able to enjoy all that Mother Nature has to offer.

If walking isn’t your cup of tea go swimming. You can use the family pool, but for an even more enjoyable experience, grab the dog and head to the beach, river, or even the lake. Most dogs really enjoy the water and it’s a great way to get some exercise on a nice hot day.

Maybe you have a dog that likes to retrieve a ball. Throwing the ball for your dog can be very enjoyable for your dog without making you work too hard. In fact, you can sit under a shady tree with your iced tea while your dog does all the work.

Well, do you have a Frisbee dog? If he does, then this is the time to shoot until he has had enough. There is nothing more fun than a Frisbee for a dog that has learned how to do it. I love watching a dog fly through the air and grab the treat.

Now, here’s the best part that you may or may not be aware of. A dog that gets a lot of exercise is a happy dog. As dog owners, it’s our job to make sure our dogs are happy and satisfied. It also creates a great bond between you and your dog.

So whatever you do today, take some time out of your busy schedule and give your friend a good workout.
