The annual checkup for a Honda Acura

Checking your car for problems every year is essential to detect problems early. Finding problems early can save a lot of money on repair costs and can prevent unpleasant surprises later on. Ideally, your Honda Acura should go through all of the following checkups every year, but feel free to keep every aspect monitored throughout the year. Problems can arise at any time.

transmission fluid

Honda transmissions require a specific fluid purchased directly from the dealer. For the Honda Acura, Acura ATF-Z1 fluid is recommended. While it can handle other fluids, this one is the most efficient. Any shifting problem could indicate the need to replace the transmission fluid, but if you’re worried it could be something worse, take it to a mechanic.

Lights

Your lights are not only crucial to being seen at night, they are crucial to avoiding a run-in with local police. By law, your lights must be in good working order. Take a look at the lights by employing the services of a friend to check out the exterior of the car. If no one is available, point the car out a window or at another car and look at the reflection or lack of reflection when the lights are on.

Refrigeration system

The water in the engine is there to keep everything from Honda transmissions to engines from overheating. Ideally, it should cover the water level mark. If there are problems with the car overheating, you may need to replace the coolant. Be careful when choosing coolant for your Acura because there are some labeling issues with the fluid.

The fluid you want is type II (blue) coolant, but it is sometimes labeled ‘Honda’ fluid and other times ‘Acura’ fluid. Take note, it is exactly the same fluid and there is no difference between them.

tires

Check your tires for nicks or cuts, including around the rear. If any of these things are present, replace them immediately. Go to the tire’s grooved tread and check how deep it is. A 1.6mm groove is the minimum depth required to avoid breaking the law, although some countries may have different standards.

For the Honda Acura, Dunlop A2 tires are recommended for summer driving. During the winter months, where snow and rain are common, Michelin Hydroedge tires are recommended for their strong grip.

Oil

Check the oil levels every 500 miles to make sure the correct amount is still in there. If the oil level is not between the upper and lower marks, drain some oil or add some oil. Use 5W20 oil with your Acura and add it a drop at a time to allow the oil to settle completely.

driving sensation

You won’t find this in your driving manual, but sometimes problems can be spotted simply while driving. Drivers who notice something is wrong are often right on instinct. This is not a tactic for novice drivers, but experienced drivers may encounter problems with their Honda transmissions, electronics, or tires just by driving. Stay alert for any problems throughout the year through this method.
