Apple’s iPad tablet was released in mid-summer 2010 and has since sold over 3 million units in the US alone. Apple’s tablet is hugely popular and has dramatically revitalized the tablet market. There are many new Android and Windows based tablets now vying for the top spot from Apple’s iPad. Here is the main contender.
First, the Samsung Galaxy Tab Android 2.2 (Froyo) tablet. This particular tablet comes with a 7-inch AMOLED screen that features capacitive multi-touch. The tablet comes with a 1.2GHz Samsung Hummingbird A8 processor — for comparison, Apple’s iPad comes with a 1Ghz Apple A4 processor — which is ARM-based just like Apple’s A4 chip.
The Samsung Galaxy tablet will come with 16 GB to 42 GB internal storage. The tablet will also come with a front camera that will allow users to make video calls, the camera is 3.2 megapixels. Connectivity on the Galaxy Tab features Wi-Fi and 3G, please note that the Galaxy Tab will be able to make regular phone calls. The price of the Samsung Galaxy tablet has not yet been made official.
The official announcement of Samsung’s first Google Android tablet will come in early September 2010. Hopefully, the tablet will be in retail stores before the 2010 holiday season or the iPad will have no competition. Apple’s iPad currently holds about 74 percent of the tablet market, and analysts are only asking for that to begin to slow down in 2012. If Samsung can price the Galaxy Tab “GT-P1000” at around $400 they will be a great success.
