Using the colors of your mind in self-hypnosis

In a Hypnosis Hub that I belong to, there has been a discussion about seeing colors when hypnotized, and a discussion about the impact or nature of colors and it has been fascinating.

I have met color therapists and read the entire book on the Luscher color test when I was younger, but I had never really studied colors therapeutically in any great depth.

The main way I’ve used colors has been in line with the help and enhancement of progressive relaxation techniques where you imagine relaxation as a color, or pain relief application where while hypnotized , the client imagines the pain as a color that later changes. to another color as a way to alter it – similar types of applications.

While reading through the discussions, I came across a lovely process and technique advocated by Dr. Alman and Dr. Lambrou in their book on self-hypnosis that I have been using and exploring for the past two weeks and have modified it to match my own preferences and I thought I’d share it with you here today.

The goal of the process is to use colors metaphorically and in a way that helps to represent facets of yourself, and then to use the colors and what they represent to create solutions and chart a path forward and create positive solutions. It can be applied in a very general well-being enhancement sense, but it can also be used in relation to something specific that you are currently working on in your life.

9 steps to use the colors of your mind:

Step one: Induce hypnosis.

You can do it by any means you want or know of.

Once you have induced hypnosis, move on to step two.

Second step: Inside your mind, now start to imagine that you have colored paints or pens or that you have a computerized palette or color software to color, draw and create. Just gather and imagine the coloring tools you most enjoy using and assemble them there in front of you and in as much detail as is comfortable for you.

Tell yourself that every thought, every image, and every movement within your mind is drawing you deeper into hypnosis, then move on to the next step.

Step three: Be aware of who and how you are at this time.

So start by increasing your awareness of your entire body. Look through him, over him, around him from the top of his head, down to his fingers and toes. Be really aware of your whole body as one. Watch and be aware of his muscles as they relax and stay still while in this position, watching his nerves calm down. Just observe the experience of your body in this moment.

Being conscious means that you only observe your body, you do not try to change anything; don’t try to prevent anything from changing. Chances are high that things will change as you watch them, and just do that, watch.

Be passive, a detached observer, just be content to notice what you notice, feel what you feel.

Really tune in to the sensations of your breath. Notice the parts of your body that move when you breathe, be aware of the sensations of your breath, and really take some time to tune into your body and breath.

With that mindfulness developed, going deeper into your mind, move on to the next step.

Step four: With this increased awareness of who you are right now, now draw, paint and create an image, a representation of yourself right there in front of you.

Use colors that you think represent different parts of you. How would you color your head and where is it? How would you color your gut and the feelings it has? How are your chest and heart best colored? How would you paint your limbs? And they don’t have to be all one color, they can have a variety, just color according to how you feel and what best represents you at the moment.

Just create a colorful representation and image of who and what you are like right now. Look at the shades of the colors you are using, look at the darkness and lightness of each color you are selecting.

When you have taken all the time you need to paint, color, and create your image of yourself in representative colors, move on to the next step.

step five: Scan around and through your creation in front of you. Start at the top, work your way down and ponder the color tones.

Consider what you have created here and find yourself reflecting and thinking about the parts of you that are darker tones and colors. By ‘darker’ I don’t necessarily mean exclusively dark blacks, browns and blues, for example (although they may well be that), but anything you consider to be representative of something darker, or a problem or potential problem in life. of some. gentle.

Perhaps these are representative of facets of an issue you are currently facing, or represent ways in which you feel about certain aspects of your life.

Take some time to examine these darker areas and what they represent. Consider the color, tone, and details of those parts and think about what color, tone, or detail would make it look nicer – should I change the tone and just go lighter to look nicer and create a more progressive response to that? , for example?

Reflect and get an idea of what colors, textures, details and tones are required to represent a change in feeling and in your person. Then continue to the next step.

step six: When you know the types of colors and shades that are required to make the image look, feel and seem nicer, happier, etc., then start to think of real ways that you can incorporate that light, color and detail. your real life

How can you take action or invite a remedy into your life that will bring more of that desired color, light, or detail into your real life?

Perhaps you need more exposure to people with a particular attitude or manner? Perhaps you need to be more in certain environments? Perhaps you are seeking the light of a better understanding and require more information or ask a few questions to clarify a matter?

Brainstorm within the focused mental environment of self-hypnosis, think of a series of solutions, choices, and actions that will bring about a color change within your mind (i.e., a metaphorical color change).

Really think hard about various ways that you can bring that required color, light and texture into your real life and then equipped with those ideas, move on to the next step.

step seven: With real taste, with meaning and will, with a real sense of purpose, now use your inner dialogue and tell yourself what colors you are going to bring into your life and how you are going to do it. Write your affirmations in the present tense, and really install some belief in your mind. For example:

I bring lighter shades of blue into my life by spending more time with my positive friends at my running club.

I welcome the deepest red into my life by participating in (name here the activity that you are most passionate about)”

I eat more vegetables to bring more sustenance and bright green to my body.

By taking in more fresh air, I bring more yellow to my head area.

These are basic examples, they are generic and not specific; for you to think and consider: believe and build the statement and repeat it over and over again until you have a sense of determined belief in it. Then continue to the next step.

step eight: Finally, engage in a mental rehearsal of the action you are going to take. Imagine being in that place, doing that thing, seeing the sights of the place, hearing the sounds, enjoying the feelings you get from being there, and doing that action. Respond to the future memory and mentally rehearse that progressive action in detail in your mind.

Having done that, still imagining your creatively colored mental image of yourself in front of you, see how the colors in your mental image update as a result of taking that action. Watch as the colors, shades, and details update with new colors that represent you feeling better, happier, and healthier.

Keep that image strong in your mind, and then move on to the final step.

step nine: Exit hypnosis and this session. Take a couple of nice energizing breaths, wiggle your fingers and toes, and open your eyes.

Be sure to take that image and feel the colors in your mind update.
