Each breed of dog is known for certain basic characteristics, including temperament. As a result, you can rely on this information to help you choose a dog whose attitude and disposition match your own.
Some smaller dogs are known to be feisty and loud, while some larger dogs are quiet and calm. One thing you need to know early on is that you are not going to get a dog to go against his inherent instincts. So if you like the look of a certain breed, be prepared to live with that breed’s temperament once you bring it home.
What kind of dog has a horrible disposition? Answer? None if well matched with the dog. Behaviors that are irritating to one dog owner are not a big problem to another. A person who is hyper will not mind a miniature poodle or chihuahua that is just as hyper as they are. A calm and studious person needs to have a calm and patient dog like the Basset Hound, good-natured and faithful.
Breeders find some dogs difficult to train, such as the Lhasa Apso, Pekingese, Dalmatian, Irish Setter, and Bull Terrier. Not all dogs are man’s best friends. Some are fiercely independent and care little for their owners.
These unsociable dog breeds can include the Bull Terrier, Bull Mastiff, Doberman, Irish Terrier, Wire Haired Fox Terrier, and Rottweiler. Unsociable dogs can be alert, independent, aggressive, and good as watchdogs, but are sometimes not optimal for training.
In other cases, the breed of the dog may have potential for training, but the personality of the individual dog is more reluctant. Or that dog may have had a bad experience at the pet store from unkind or unqualified handlers.
The dog is reacting strongly to mask his fear of being hurt or neglected based on old memories. If that is your dog’s experience, then you should take more time to reassure him that you are trustworthy and that you will never hurt him as a punishment during training.
Withholding a dog treat when the dog is walking poorly on leash is reasonable. Taking away his dinner is cruel and only teaches the dog to resent you and challenge you as his only outlet for mistreatment.
Other times, there is no apparent reason for the dog’s strange behavior. Becoming a dog owner does not come with guarantees. Sometimes you have a dog that is difficult to board and you need to take care of it or make sure it has a proper home.
