Labradors are truly “man’s best friend.” Chances are, you also know the variations of Labrador retrievers. For example, Labradors can have one of three different colors; They can be black, yellow, or chocolate brown. But you may not know of another variation of Labradors – Miniature Labradors.
A history of mini labs
Many people think that Miniature Labradors are a different breed of Labradors. Are not! They are just a size variation of the Labrador breed. These miniature Labradors came about because both breeders and rescuers expressed a desire for smaller Labradors. Although they are often bred with regular Labradors to retain the typical characteristics of their Labrador ancestors, Miniature Labradors are purebred dogs. The size variation of miniature Labradors has been around for a long time. Miniature Labradors are registered with the American Kennel Club (AKC); They also have several other Labrador Retriever records.
Physical features of mini labs
Miniature Labradors possess many of the favorable traits that regular Labradors have. Miniature Labradors are strongly built, broad in the skull and chest, broad in the hindquarters, and very active. Miniature Labradors typically weigh between forty-five and fifty pounds and are typically sixteen to nineteen inches tall at the shoulder. Any miniature lab that stands over twenty inches tall at the shoulder is too big to compete in a dog show as a miniature. Toy-sized dogs are not judged favorably.
