Features and Benefits of Skechers Shape Ups

You may have noticed that some people walk around in these strange looking shoes made by Skechers. They look just like the old moon shoes from back in the day. Did you know that these people are subtly working out just by wearing them all day? You may have some questions about how they work and what are the features and benefits. Here’s a couple.

Unlocks your knees – Instead of standing on your heels and centering your weight on your arches, your knees unlock, taking pressure off your knee joints and putting weight on your quads, hamstrings, and calves, and it also relieves back pain.

Like walking on sand: This is a great analogy. The goal of walking on sand is to increase the use of the stabilizing muscles and to make the muscles work harder. Therefore, the goal of using Shape Ups is to make your body work harder using muscles you don’t normally use.

Works with templates – You can definitely add templates to your Shape Ups. The only concern would be that traditionally people who wear insoles have major issues with pronation/supination. Due to the soft kinetic wedge and instability of the shoe, the insoles do not have a solid platform to center on. Some people may overexaggerate their pronation/supination problems. So bring your templates to the store when you try on Shape Ups.

Longevity – Shape Ups have approximately twice the lifespan of a traditional pair of running shoes. The average running shoe lasts around 300 miles, or around three months if you run or walk 25 miles a week. The Skechers rep I spoke to said he once heard about a 240-pound man who wore Shape Ups eight to 10 hours a day and needed to replace them after five months.
