Some great holiday destinations in France for the British tourist

Why would you want to spend all day on a plane, most of the time you’re above the clouds and can’t see the land below, that’s when it’s land of course, and not a large expanse of water?

You can drive from the channel ports to the south of France, it will only take you around 9 hours and you can easily turn that part of the journey into a sightseeing adventure and an enjoyable part of your holiday, especially if you are perhaps stopping over for one or two nights.

There are many motels or Logis de France hotels on the route who would be happy to accommodate you for a night or two at very affordable prices, some starting at EUR 32 for a double room, or you can choose to do a bit of camping on the route, even better if you know when you arrive at your destination that you have organized a really comfortable place to stay.

Once in the south of France you will find many very affordable accommodation options, there are Chambre d’hote’s, self-catering gites, a host of hotels or camping options and all this for the most part in a Mediterranean climate. That’s certainly true of Languedoc Roussillon, Provence and the Côte d’Azur, even if it’s not strictly true of Limousin, which is a bit further north, but still has some very nice weather in this region at the right time of year. .

Driving into the south of France is a wonderful way to see the country and experience some of the fantastic scenery on offer, and of course you can choose to stay in or near some of the beautiful towns, both en route and on your way. destiny.

You can of course also decide how far you want to drive, if 9 hours of driving (remember you can split this up) isn’t to your liking then you don’t need to go that far south, maybe you could stay north of Paris, or a a bit south of Paris, especially if you’re not a sun worshipper and don’t necessarily seek the warmth of the Mediterranean sun. The benefit of staying close to Paris is that you can usually get readily available train connections into the French capital, and visiting without running the gauntlet of the Arc de Triomphe is fine. It is not for the faint of heart.

Some lovely places to visit traveling from north to south:

senlis
Paris
orleon
Limoges
Cahors
toulouse
monticoux
Bruniquel
Castelnau-de-Montmiral

Once you are this far south there are many other options, Carcassonne is quite special, as are Montpellier, Nimes, Narbonne, Beziers, Perpignan and many more. All fabulous in their own right.

So don’t waste your day on a plane, turn time into an adventure and make your travel time an enjoyable experience.
