Legal Law

The functions of a lawyer

The following are six main points that highlight the functions of an attorney.

1) Representing clients in court, especially when a third party, such as the state or another person, files charges against the client in connection with crimes or criminal actions allegedly taken by the client. Otherwise, lawyers draft documents against a criminal who is believed to have violated the client’s rights and defend him in court.

2) Writing articles and conducting legal research on behalf of the client, such as writing reports and investigating relevant facts related to a particular case. Most of the hard work is done by the attorney, while clients simply need to show their face.

3) Provide the client with legal advice on the actions to be taken, also after due investigation of the law or the constitution with respect to a particular situation in question. The attorney advises the client on the best course of action to take to better resolve the situation without breaking the law.

4) Acquisition of patents and copyrights to protect the client’s intellectual property, especially with regard to business. An idea, a trade secret, or an important chemical formula falls into this category. The attorney makes every effort to help the client formally register the products with the respective government or government body to receive the highest level of protection under the law.

5) Execution of the deceased’s last wishes, such as a written will stating your precise wishes in black and white, a trust, etc. The attorney helps ensure that these wishes are followed to the letter.

6) Prosecution of criminal suspects in court: This is applicable if the attorney works for an arm of the government, say the Police Department, the Justice Department or the District Attorney’s Office.
