Dog breeds: various types of terriers

If you like dogs, and more especially if you like small, energetic dogs, a terrier may be among the best you can get. They can be “best friends” with you, and need very little grooming, but they also have a “sense of humor.”

Terriers were originally bred to hunt and kill vermin, but their pet status is second to none because they are so lovable and have several desirable characteristics when it comes to finding a dog you like. They are intelligent (although they may not be the most intelligent of the races) and have several other advantages that other races may not have.

Here are some common and desirable terrier breeds:

Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers are very alert and energetic, but not shy. They have stable dispositions and confident heirs, which means you can count on them in stressful situations. Because they are highly intelligent, they are also particularly well-suited for obedience training.

The Parson Russell Terrier is bold, intelligent, affectionate and exuberant. If he has a lot of energy and likes to play a lot, this may be the dog for you, but if you don’t have the patience for a particularly energetic dog, you may want to find another type. Of all the breeds, this dog is likely to need formal obedience training the most, because he will be too playful and mischievous with his owners to pay attention to him. However, if you are patient and like playfulness and a bit of independence, this terrier may be for you.

The Norwich terrier came about because small terrier breeds were bred with even smaller meat breeds like Yorkshire terriers. This type of dog is content to live modestly and does not need a lot of space. Their dispositions are loving, fearless, and alert. Because they are happy and stable, this makes them ideal pets.

Norfolk Terriers look a lot like Norwich Terriers, and are fearless, charming, ready to play, and energetic. They closely resemble Norwich Terriers, but have distinctive ear folds.

Kerry Blue Terriers make excellent watchdogs and are well suited to the farm environment. The dog’s name comes from its “blue” coat, originally black on the puppy hood.

Wire Fox Terriers are very powerful and fast. They are very alert and have quick movements, which makes them suitable for very active lifestyles. However, it is imperative that the owner take control of the dog and train it. You also need to exercise a lot.

Smooth Fox Terriers are lively dogs that like to play, and are highly intelligent and cunning. Suitable for both the countryside and the city, they adapt well to training. They are also usually very affectionate with their owners.

These are just a few of the terrier types available; you may want to consider one as your next pet. In general, these dogs have good dispositions and make excellent pets. They tend to become very attached to their owners and can be very playful. However, it should be noted that you should give them enough attention and obedience training (formal if necessary) as well as enough physical activity to keep them well and active.
